A district and sessions court in the Islamabad acquitted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and many other leaders in a case filed at Aapbara Police Station.
During today’s session, Judicial Magistrate Yasir Mehmood gave the ruling on the acquittal petitions that had been reserved last week.
Other figures exonerated in the case include Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Sheikh Rasheed, Asad Qaiser, Shehryar Afridi, Faisal Javed, Raja Khurram Nawaz, and Ali Nawaz Awan.
PTI attorneys, Advocate Sardar Masroof and Advocate Ansar Kayani, argued the case on behalf of the former prime minister and others.
A complaint was filed against the PTI founder and other lawmakers in 2022 for protesting the ECP’s Toshakhana judgment, which barred them from holding office for a short period.
Since his dismissal as prime minister in 2022, Imran Khan has faced a litany of allegations ranging from corruption to terrorism.
The PTI founder has been in jail since August, and he was convicted in certain instances ahead of a national election earlier this year. In addition, he is litigating dozens of additional lawsuits.
The only thing holding him in prison is the iddat, or un-Islamic marriage case, which is now being heard, and the court expects it to be resolved this month.
