Former prime minister Imran Khan has insisted that the situation is not an internal military affair and has asked for the open court trial of former ISI head Faiz Hameed .
In an informal chat with reporters, Imran said that the army commander need to back up General (retd) Faiz in having an open trial, emphasizing that his relationship with the former head of the ISI is irrelevant now that he is retired.
General Faiz’s retirement caused him to lose significance. He questioned, “How could he help me in any way?,” brushing off the idea that he still keeps in touch with the former DG ISI.
The former prime minister went on to say that the trial ought to be public if Gen. (retd) Faiz is, in fact, the mastermind behind the May 9 conspiracy. He clarified that the incident was not a problem of national security, but rather a local one.
Imran reiterated his stance that the case should be handled in a civil court rather than a military one as it involves a civilian leader and not the army’s internal activities and voiced fear that putting him through a military trial would harm Pakistan’s reputation abroad.
The former prime minister stated on Saturday that Faiz Hameed’s detention has not scared him. He declared that he would not have requested a judicial commission if he had been terrified.
Imran refuted charges made by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif that the PTI had destroyed the economy, citing the Economic Survey of Pakistan as evidence.
He brought up the $19.5 billion imbalance left by the previous administration, which made PTI’s interaction with the IMF necessary.
