The International Monetary Fund (IMF) demands disposal of the tax cases pending in various courts, the sources said on Thursday.
The cases related to tax amounting to Rs3,760 billion are now pending in appellate tribunals and courts
According to the officials from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the value of pending cases in appellate tribunals increased from Rs1,460 billion to Rs. 2,235 billion.
The FBR has initiated steps to expedite hearings of these pending cases in various courts and tribunals.
Among the 3,450 cases pending in the Supreme Court, Rs105 billion in potential revenue is at stake.
Additionally, 780 cases amounting to Rs160 billion are pending in the Islamabad High Court.
The officials said that the Sindh High Court the highest number of pending tax cases, amounting to Rs309 billion while the Lahore High Court has 4,670 pending cases worth Rs180 billion.
As many as 400 cases worth Rs8 billion are pending before the courts of Balochistan, and hundreds of cases worth billions of rupees are also delayed in the Balochistan High Court.
In the Appellate Tribunals of Inland Revenue, over 71,300 cases are pending, involving an amount exceeding Rs2,230 billion.
