The Islamabad High Court (IHC) rejected a petition filed by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) seeking to revoke Bushra Bibi’s bail during a hearing overseen by Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb.
During the session, Justice Aurangzeb questioned the presence of Bushra Bibi, to which her lawyer, Barrister Salman Safdar, confirmed that she was in attendance.
The judge stressed the need for strict adherence to trial procedures, urging the defense to approach the matter with seriousness.
He also requested records of instances where Bushra Bibi was exempted from attending trial hearings.
Justice Aurangzeb clarified that while the High Court can grant bail, the trial court retains the authority to revoke it if the accused fails to comply with court appearances.
He further assured that such actions would not constitute contempt of the High Court.
Following these deliberations, the IHC dismissed the FIA’s petition, bringing the proceedings to a close.
Earlier, Bushra Bibi, wife of imprisoned ex-prime minister Imran Khan, faced mounting legal challenges as the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) dispatched a team from Rawalpindi to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to apprehend her in connection with a £190 million corruption investigation.
Reports indicated that non-bailable arrest warrants have been issued against Bushra Bibi due to her repeated failure to attend court proceedings.
A prior attempt by NAB officials to detain the former First Lady was reportedly unsuccessful.
