The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed the ODI and Test Teams of the Year for 2024, featuring three Pakistani players in the ODI lineup.
The ODI Team of the Year includes three players from Afghanistan, one from the West Indies, and four from Sri Lanka, but notably, no Indian player made it to the team.
For the Test Team of the Year, Pat Cummins has been named captain. The Test XI includes four players from England and three from India, but no Pakistani players have been selected.
The team features notable names like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ben Duckett, Kane Williamson, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Kusal Menids, Jamie Smith, Ravindra Jadeja, Pat Cummins, Matt Henry, and Jasprit Bumrah.
From Pakistan, Saim Ayub, Shaheen Afridi, and Hairsh Rauf have been selected for the ODI Team of the Year.
Other players in the ODI lineup include Kusal Mendis, Charith Asalanka, Sherfane Rutherford, Azmatullah Omarzai, Wanindu Hasaranga, and AM Ghazanfar. Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka has been named captain of the ODI team.
The ICC Men’s Team of the Year reflects a strong presence from Asia. Young Pakistani batter Saim Ayub earned a spot as an opener in the ODI XI after his impressive performances throughout the year.
At just 22, he scored 515 runs in 9 matches, including spectacular centuries against Zimbabwe and two against South Africa.
This announcement highlights the rising talent in Pakistan and the dominance of Asian players in the international cricket scene.
