On Saturday, Hezbollah has confirmed the death of its leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, and pledged to carry on its fight against Israel.
Earlier, Israel had claimed responsibility for his death in an airstrike on the southern suburbs of Beirut, which took place the previous day.
This strike is considered a major setback for the militant group, which has been reeling from Israel’s ongoing military campaign.
Nasrallah’s death represents a significant blow not only to Hezbollah but also to its Iranian sponsors.
He had been a key figure in the Iran-backed “Axis of Resistance,” playing a pivotal role in extending Iranian influence across the region.
According to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), Nasrallah was killed in a “targeted attack” on an underground Hezbollah base located beneath a residential building in Dahiyeh, a Hezbollah stronghold in southern Beirut.
Alongside Nasrallah, another prominent Hezbollah figure, Ali Karaki, was also reported dead, along with several other commanders.
Israel described the strike as a precise operation that targeted Hezbollah’s senior leadership, which was reportedly using the base to plan further attacks against Israel.
Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee confirmed Nasrallah’s death, stating that his influence in the region had come to an end, calling him a key figure in a “terrorist organization.”
“Hezbollah’s terrorist activities will no longer be orchestrated by Hassan Nasrallah,” the Israeli military declared on social media.
A Hezbollah affiliate informed Reuters late on Friday that Nasrallah had become unreachable, confirming suspicions of his demise.
