Renowned and veteran actor Humayun Saeed shared his perception about aged actors and leading roles in cinema.
Recently, Humayun attended the 17th Urdu Conference held at the Karachi Arts Council. During a lighter discussion Humayun Saeed shared his perspective on the age gap often seen between male and female leads in Pakistani cinema.
Humayun said that a false notion prevails in Pakistan about the character of hero and heroine in Pakistan film industry. He said that Pakistani audience want to see the lead characters younger and beautiful. “In Pakistan, specific notions are attached to the roles of heroes and heroines, unlike the broader perspectives seen in Western cinema. People should understand that age does not determine these roles”, Humayun stated.
He added that lead roles are more about character than the age. Humayun said that, despite all these things the selection of heroes or heroines is ultimately the director’s or producer’s decision.
The host asked Humayun Saeed if he would take on a role opposite seasoned actresses like Sania Saeed or Nadia Jameel, should the opportunity arise. “I would surely welcome the role against these senior actors and there is nothing unexpected in it”, Humayun responded.
Additional to this Humayun said that Pakistani audience should understand the fact that acting is beyond age or other limitations. “Acting is all about how effectively an actor brings a character to life, regardless of factors like age or appearance”, Humayun concluded.
