WhatsApp now has a swipeable navigation bar officially. WhatsApp has been experimenting out a novel menu bar design for about a year now. According to WABetaInfo, the modification, which was initially observed by beta testers, demonstrates how committed the app is to following Google’s Material Design principles.
However, WhatsApp swiftly reversed the change, bringing it back in June and September of 2023. As of last week, it has resurfaced and gained attention.
Unlike prior tests that only affected specific devices, the testing carried out last week used connected Android phones that were not previously touched.
The bottom of the screen features a revamped tab bar with four tabs: Chats, Updates, Communities, and Calls.
This is different from the previous layout, which included a smaller Communities tab and a bigger Chats, Status, and Calls tab.
The revised bottom bar, according to WhatsApp, is positioned to facilitate thumb access.
It also makes side swipes for easy tab navigation possible. This functionality is now available to users on all of their devices following an appropriate update to the app’s Play Store changelog.
