The Lesco (Lahore Electric Supply Company) claims it is ready to meet the challenge in case of any major interruption in electricity supply during Eid ul Adha holidays, considering the persisting heatwave in Lahore.
The company has enough transformers and related equipments to restore the power supply in minimum time duration, its spokesperson said. Having total 6.5 million consumers, Lesco responsible for electricity distribution in five districts- Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana, Kasur and Okara- of Punjab. It is considered as the biggest power distribution company (Disco) of Pakistan. Among the total consumers, 86 percent are domestic, 11 percent commercial, 1.4 percent industrial and around 1.1 percent agriculture (tube-well). It has total 202 sub-divisions.
Number of XENs and SEOS work in Lesco are 42 AND 8 respectively with total staff touches 18,000.
Lesco says its chief engineer operations is in coordination with staff round the clock in case of any supply failure. It also arranges emergency vehicles to reach at spot and fix the problem. It asked the consumers to inform the staff at complaint numbers if there is any supply failure.
About the load shedding situation, it claimed the supply is affected at only 35 feeders out of its total 2169 feeders. It stated that power supply faces suspension at 22 feeders due to technical issues and at 23 feeders because of maintenance activities.
The Lesco claims it is conducting three hours load shedding in areas fall under 131 feeders of category-3, four hours under 57 feeders of category-4 and five hours under areas fall in 37 feeders of category-5 in rural and urban limits of five districts. The rest feeders are load shedding free, said the Lesco.
