Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh assassinated in Iran, Iranian security agency confirmed his death on Wednesday morning.
The Hamas leader was targeted by Jewish secret service agents in the Iranian capital – Tehran, claims report.
Ismail Haniyeh was in Iran to attend the oath taking ceremony of recently elected Iranian President Masood Pezeshkian.
Hamas has also confirmed the assassination of Haniyeh, the head of its political bureau.
The assassination of Haniyeh in Iran is a grave escalation that will not achieve its goals, Hamas official reported as saying by Reuters on Wednesday.
“It is cowardly act that will not go unpunished,” he told the news agency.
According to a statement released by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Tehran will uphold its territorial integrity and dignity, as reported by Al Jazeera.
Today, Iran is grieving the loss of Haj Ismail Haniyeh, the martyr of al-Quds, the courageous leader of the Palestinian resistance, and the steadfast and loyal companion of the road of resistance.
Today I must bury him on my shoulders, for yesterday I lifted his victorious hand.
The road of resistance and protection of the downtrodden will be continued with greater vigor than ever before, and the relationship between the two noble countries of Iran and Palestine will be stronger than ever.
