The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA-G) has recommended that users who have installed solar systems, whether residential or commercial, pay a fee to the government.
According to local media reports, the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) has received a summary from the CPPA-G on this matter.
The CPPA-G has suggested charging users of solar panels, whether residential or commercial, Rs. 2,000 per kilowatt.
Users of 12-kilowatt panels would be required to pay a tax of Rs. 24,000, according to sources. The summary has been given to the prime minister by the ministry for his approval.
According to further sources, consideration is also being given to the proposal for the rationalization of net metering electricity buyback rates.
An application to lower the buyback rates of net metering power will be submitted to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) upon approval of the summary.
