The Federal Government of Pakistan suspended mobile services in Islamabad and Rawalpindi today as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) prepares for a protest rally at D-Chowk.
The Interior Ministry ordered the suspension, which affects both mobile calls and internet data services, to prevent any potential disruption of public peace during the gathering.
Mobile services remain offline, but broadband internet and landline connections continue to operate for now.
Authorities have extended the suspension to surrounding areas, including Gujar Khan, Hasan Abdal, Taxila, and Kalra Syedan, where residents report similar service outages.
Due to the protest rally of PTI, the government has intensified the security measures across the federal capital and Punjab.
Authorities have blocked entry and exit points, along with major routes from Lahore to Islamabad, using containers, while a heavy police presence controls the situation.
Police arrested three PTI workers from D-Chowk, where containers now surround key areas to restrict movement.
The Red Zone remains sealed, with police stationed at all major points.
Authorities have closed educational institutions and suspended Metro bus services between Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Private offices continue with work-from-home practices, while most commercial centers plan to stay closed during the rally.
