The NEPRA has approved the hike in electricity tariff for all types of consumers.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) issued the notification of price increase, allowing the power distribution companies (DISCOs) to raise further the per unit tariff.
The DISCOs will charge all the domestic, commercial and industrial consumers with an additional Rs.457 per unit, according to the latest decision. The new prices will be applicable for the month of February.
The power regulator said it increased the tariff in term of fuel adjustment.
With the latest increase, the countrywide consumers burdened with another Rs33 billion.
The NEPRA said new raise will not be applicable on the Karachi Electric (KE) and life-line consumers.
Last time, the electricity prices went up in November. The NEPRA raised the tariff less than a week before the general elections. Pakistan will hold the national vote on February 8, Thursday.
The government since 2022 made frequent increases in electricity tariff in line with the direction of the IMF. The monthly bill also includes multiple taxes, jacking up the per unit price by around Rs50.
