Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed his commitment to achieving the goal of $25 billion in IT exports over the next three years on Friday, while also underlining the government’s initiatives to support the telecom industry.
The prime minister stated that the government was taking steps to implement 5G internet service in order to provide dependable and fast internet access, especially in distant places, during a meeting with a five-member VEON Group delegation headed by Chairman Augie K. Fabela.
He stated that the government’s goal of creating a “Digital Pakistan” will be aided by the 5G services.
According to a PM Office news release, he praised the contributions of VEON Group’s subsidiary Jazz in Pakistan’s financial technology and telecommunications sectors and stated that the telecom industry played a vital role in advancing a cashless and digital economy.
As stated by Prime Minister Shehbaz, the government was open to working with VEON Group on IT, digitalization, and AI.
The delegation members praised the government’s efforts to maintain economic stability and stated that Pakistan has emerged as a major location for IT and telecom investments.
The meeting was attended by PM Rana Ehsan Afzal’s coordinator, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Minister of State for Finance and Revenue, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunications, and other pertinent senior executives.
