At a news conference in Islamabad, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar declared that the PTI would be subject to ban and that the government will take the matter to the Supreme Court.
He went on to say that the government will start the process of imposing restrictions on the PTI since there was ample evidence to support it.
Tarar brought up recent attempts to sow discord in the nation, citing a “Saat Khoon Maaf” movie trailer that said some people were “above the law.”
He criticized Imran Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), calling him the worst leader who has set a pattern for putting wives and daughters in jail.
Tarar added that Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister, has suggested a Charter of Economy in the Parliament, but that this sensible move was misinterpreted as a show of weakness.
He emphasized that the government will move on with bringing a case in the highest court to enforce this ban, and that there is ample evidence to sustain the ban.
The government would take strong measures against a number of well-known individuals, including former President Arif Alvi, PTI founder Imran Khan, and former Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri, the information minister declared.
He claimed that Imran, Alvi, and Suri would face treason charges under Article 6 of the Constitution; furthermore, their passports and CNIC cards would be revoked, and a legislative resolution would be introduced against them.
The minister of information also raised concerns about previous interactions between government officials and Israeli businesspeople throughout the Palestinian conflict.
With respect to recent legislative actions, Tarar emphasized the position of the Sunni Ittehad Council against non-Muslim members and the relief provided to PTI in the face of legal difficulties.
He said that the government intends to fight the Supreme Court’s ruling on reserved seats, casting doubt on the eligibility of PTI’s supporters and their attendance in court.
He added that there have been claims that PTI financed by illegal sources and orchestrated the May 9 event for their own benefit.
