Google declared on Wednesday that it has lodged a complaint against Microsoft with the European Commission, alleging that the rival company used “anti-competitive” licensing tactics to coerce users into adopting its cloud service.
Google Cloud Vice President Amit Zavery stated at a press conference, “We believe this legal proceedings is the best way to end Microsoft vendor lock-in, for customers to have an option, and to establish a level playing field for competitors.”
Google said that Microsoft has forced corporate clients to utilize its Azure cloud platform by taking advantage of their dependence on “must-have” software items like Windows Server.
Due to Microsoft’s 400% price increase, users find it too expensive to utilize Windows Server or other goods on competitors’ platforms like Google Cloud or Amazon’s AWS, according to Google.
According to Google, “Microsoft introduced more challenges over the past few years, such as limiting updates for security and creating other compatibility barriers,” for companies who choose to utilize other cloud platforms despite the expense.
