The Punjab government on Friday officially raised the minimum wage for laborers to Rs. 37,000 per month.
A notification issued by the Labor and Human Resource Department confirmed the wage increase, saying that it will come into effect starting from July 1, 2024.
As per the new notification, the laborers would now earn a daily wage of Rs. 1,423.
The move is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to address inflation and improve the living standards of workers across the province.
The notification also made it clear that there would be no gender-based wage disparity as the women laborers are entitled to the same minimum wage as their male counterparts.
The move aligns with the government’s commitment to ensuring equal pay for equal work which promoted the gender equality in the workforce.
