In a surprising turn of events, a German Sikh girl of Indian origin tied the knot with a young man hailing from Sialkot, Pakistan.
Before the marriage, the Sikh woman embraced Islam in the presence of Senior Parliamentarian Hafiz Sahibzadah Hamid Raza in Jamia Hanafia Sialkot. The woman, previously named Jaspreet Kaur, then changed her name to Zainab.
Kaur hails from Ludhiana, Indian Punjab and came to Pakistan on January 16 for a religious tour. She has been given a solitary passage visa valid til April 15. Kaur possesses Indian visa which she acquired in Munich, Germany.
The Jamia Hanafia stated that the Zainab’s (then Kaur) parents are Indian however she is living in Germany. Media portals also suggest that Zainab and her husband, Ali Arsalan, became friends abroad after which Arsalan invited Kaur to visit Pakistan, eventually getting married.
The trend of foreign women marrying Pakistani men has gained momentum in recent years. Among these cases was a Pakistani woman named Seema Haider who defied all odds and went to India to unite with her lover, Sachin. This led to a chain of events, and in no time, an Indian woman travelled to Pakistan to marry her love, Nasrullah.
