Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has vowed to revolutionize and advance IT, education and Film City sectors under her leadership in Punjab, and presided over a meeting during which she advised the council to initiate the necessary work at the earliest.
During a meeting discussing IT City and Lahore Knowledge Park projects, Punjab CM Maryam said that business opportunities will be have the “best” IT companies to help them run their functions smoothly.
“Business opportunities will be provided to best IT companies from all over the world in IT City Lahore,” Maryam said.
Adding that IT world’s bigwigs including Microsoft, Oracle and other have given the green signal to establish offices in IT City Lahore, Maryam expressed her satisfaction and also advised the committee to invite major Chinese IT companies to set up their offices in the country.
Campuses of world-renowned international universities would also be built in Education City Lahore for students from all over Pakistan including Punjab, the committee briefed Maryam over the ongoing and upcoming project, on which Maryam requested a comprehensive plan at the earliest.
Free WiFi project greenlighted by CM Maryam Nawaz
In light of technological advancements required in the educational sector to strengthen the field, the Chief Minister gave a green signal to launch a free Wi-Fi pilot project in Punjab’s capital, Lahore.
Maryam has advised the authorities to start a “free Wi-Fi service preferably in educational institutions, at airports, railway stations and bus stands,” suggest media outlets.
Under the project, in phase-I, free Wi-Fi services will be launched at 10 locations in Lahore within two weeks, while total free Wi-Fi sites will establish at 516 locations in Lahore.
CBD CEO Mr Imran Amin gave a detailed presentation on the IT City and Lahore Knowledge Park project.
Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Provincial Adviser Pervaiz Rashid, Information Minister Azma Zahid Bukhari, MPA Sania Ashiq, Chief Secretary, SMBR, Chairman P&D, Secretary Housing, Secretary Higher Education, CEO Brig (Rtd) Mansoor Janjua DG LDA, Chairman PITB were present during the meeting.
In tandem with the free wifi project, Maryam also approved the launch of “Clean Punjab” Model Pilot Project in Jhelum, Jhang, Vehari and Bahawalnagar, which will lead the four cities of Punjab to be developed into model cities.

On 26 February 2024, Maryam assumed the role of Chief Minister of Punjab, making history by becoming the first-ever woman serving as a Chief Minister in any province of Pakistan.
