On Friday, armed men ambushed a convoy of three police vehicles at Sangjiani Toll Plaza outside Islamabad, according to authorities.
According to the Islamabad Police spokesman, the vans were transporting 82 detainees to Attock Jail following their court date before the district magistrate earlier today. Two PTI MPs and four party members were among the 82 inmates.
According to the statement, some 20 suspects riding in four different cars attacked the prisoner vans at Sangjani Toll Plaza. The suspects were equipped with guns, sticks, and stones.
“Four law enforcement personnel were injured in the attack, while four offenders were arrested,” according to the statement. “Two vehicles and firearms belonging to the accused were confiscated.”
As per the statement, teams were organized to arrest the suspects, and police began search operations in several regions. All escaped detainees were caught by police.
“The police teams managed the whole situation very bravely,” he said.
Previously, District Magistrate Muhammad Azhar Nadeem presided over the hearing for the recognition parade of the 82 suspects, dropping the case since they had been shown in court and so their identities were known to the police and the complainant.
According to the court decision, these people were apprehended at a PTI rally in Islamabad on October 4. Due to the accused’s attorney, 34 were police officers and 42 were members of Rescue 1122. Anwar Zeb and Malik Liaquat Khan, both PTI MPAs, are among the six detained members.
