Fire at Park Towers brought under control
The residents were evacuated safely by Rescue 1122. The eighth-floor warehouse of Rimpa Plaza caught fire in May 2023, but no one was hurt.
Critics from city experts lambasted the Sindh Building Control Authority for allowing dangerous multi-story buildings.
According to its research, 70% of the buildings in Karachi are devoid of proper fire protection apparatuses. This puts human life and property at stake.
Uncontrolled construction and insufficient safety precautions are the main causes of Karachi’s frequent fires.
More than 2,900 fire incidents were reported in Karachi until November 2024, more than the previous year.
“Improving fire safety standards requires cooperation from all,” said Kunwar Waseem, president of the Fire Protection Association.
Until November 2024, the city’s fire department had received almost 2,900 distress calls, up from 2,228 in 2023. By the end of 2024, the authorities will see a total number of accidents exceeding 3,000.
