Vetran film director Altaf Hussain passed away in Lahore on Monday, according to reports.
The 80-year-old director had been battling health problems, particularly related to his heart and respiratory system, for an extended period.
Hussain was buried at Farid Shah Cemetery in Sabzazaar.
Over the course of his career, he directed around 85 films, including several major hits. He had recently been working on a Punjabi movie titled Teray Pyar Nu Salam.
Some of his most popular works include Sala Sahib, Rani Betii Raj Kerry Gi, and Mehndi.
Born in 1944 in Khanpur, Hussain started his career in 1969 with the film Panchhi Te Perdesi. In 1981, his film Athra Putar, starring Sultan Rahi and Asia, became a box office success.
In 1983, Hussain directed three blockbuster films—Sahib Jee, Quadrat, and Lawaris—all starring Anjuman. His film Rustam Te Khan, featuring Sultan Rahi and Yousuf Khan, was also a hit that year. In 1985, 10 of his films were released, with Dhee Rani performing exceptionally well.
The film industry has mourned Hussain’s passing, expressing profound sorrow at the loss of the iconic director.
