The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has filed cases against 150 individuals including journalists, anchors and vloggers for spreading misinformation regarding Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf protest of November 26.
FIA has accused these individuals for doing propaganda against state institutions, federation and security agencies by spreading false information about November 26, the PTI crackdown.
Under these allegations, by so far FIA has arrested over 20 social media activists. The department has taken them into account for allegedly posting contentious content regarding PTI supporters death toll.
Notably, the PTI leaders claimed that security forces have shoot down 12 of their party workers during the protest. However, government has denied this allegation and stated that the PTI workers are spreading false information.
Combating this flow of misinformation Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formulated a joint task force to take take strict action against those who spread false information in connection with the PTI protest.
As per the PM direction, FIA filed charges against those miscreants under Sections 9, 10, 11, and 24 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).
According to an FIA official statement the department has filed cases against Ahmad Noorani, Hussain Rafique, Ahmad Malik, Azhar Tariq Khan, Imran Khatana, Rizwan Ahmad Khan, Harmeet Singh, Salman Durani, Asif Bashir, Saraj Ahmad, Muhammad Arshad, Abdul Qadir, Aroosa Nadim, Komal Afridi, and Maryam Shafqat Malik and many others.
