Fawad Khan, the enigmatic luminary of the Pakistani entertainment industry, was recently spotted enjoying a soulful rendition of the OST of his cult classic drama serial, Humsafar.
The television series, which went on to become a benchmark of talent and impeccable cinematography on the small screen, has helped Khan to be propelled into the international limelight. Thanks to the drama serial’s roaring success, Khan has showcased his full potential not just at home but also across borders with commercially successful films opposite A-list stars of Bollywood.
Fawad Khan’s career
While Fawad Khan needs no introduction, it would be unfair not to sing praises of his illustrious career and numerous accolades. Having debuted on the small screen with Jutt and Bond and Khuda Kay Liye, the 42-year-old actor made waves with his par excellence performance in Humsafar opposite the talented and charming Mahira Khan. With back to back hits including Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Akbari Asghari and many more dramas, Khan tried his luck on the big screen as well, and rocked the industry.
In 2014, Khan made his Bollywood debut opposite Sonam Kapoor in Khoobsurat, in a rare precedent. The film after a while was declared a ‘hit’ by critics. From then on, Khan never looked back and went on to star in Kapoor & Sons, and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil before political differences got the best of stars across borders. Back at home, Khan gave many hits with The Legend of Maula Jatt being the most prominent. But despite all the success Khan has accumulated, Humsafar remains an important part of his legacy.
In the viral video, the Money Back Guarantee star can be seen intently listening to the OST covered by the singer in a setting which looked like a Qawwali night. Apart from Khan, Mehwish Hayat and others could also be spotted. Khan, however, visibly seemed to be nostalgic of the old days and swayed to the vocal prowess of the singer.
The OST, Wo Humsafar Tha, was composed by Waqar Ali and sung by the Pakistani singer Qurat-ul-Ain Balouch. Naseer Turabi, a Pakistani poet, had penned the the poem to express his sorrow after the fall of Dhaka, marking the end of the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971. Wo Humsaar Tha serves both as the song for the title sequence and as background music during each episode.

As surprising as it sounds, Khan had almost left the project and only did it for a “paychek.” In a recent podcast of actor Ahmad Ali Butt titled Excuse Me, Khan said, “Humsafar has given me a lot and I think it mostly worked not because it’s really a unique story. Many more stories like that were being told at that time. I think it was the combination of the people who did it…That’s what made it somehow different. The song had a lot to play with it as well. What a song! It had a role to play in it.”
The actor added that he rejected the script at first because he found the plotline too cliche. “When the script came, I kind of said no once, I said no twice, and the third [time], Momina is very persistent, and then… I was like, okay.”
On the work front, Khan will next be seen in the Pakistani films Aan and Neelofar. He will also be starring in Pakistan’s Netflix debut, Jo Bachay Hain Sang Samait Lo, opposite a star studded cast.
