The Members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union on Wednesday attempted to burn an effigy of Bollywood actress and BJP politician Kangana Ranaut in protest of her statement against farmers.
According to Indian media, in the city of Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, the police officers seized the effigy from the farmers which led to a scuffle between the police and the protesters.
As a result of the confrontation, the chaos spread on the road and caused a traffic jam on the Delhi-Lucknow highway.
The farmers’ leaders demanded the return of the effigy and started a sit-in, saying that the protest would continue until the effigy was returned.
Bharatiya Kisan Union spokesperson Harish Chauhan condemned Kangana Ranaut’s statement against farmers, called it shameful and demanded that a case be registered against her.
