The Pakistan Kissan Ittehad has expressed concern over the delay in the distribution of imported fertilizers to farmers.
Khalid Khokhar, the president of the PKI Khokhar faction, said at a press conference on Thursday, that the federal caretaker government has so far not approved the distribution of urea to growers.
Over 150,000 metric tons of imported fertilizer have already arrived in the country, he maintained. The wheat crop said Khokhar, immediately needed urea application as the delay would have a severe impact on the yield, he feared.
The unnecessary delay, he added, would not only harm the anticipated wheat production but it would also affect the yield of other crucial Rabi crops.
Khokar feared the government was considering the increase in the urea price which according to him was the reason behind the approval of distribution. The government, he said, aimed at jacking up the per bag price to Rs.5000. The past year price of urea was Rs3,900, he added. If the prices of the agriculture input increased, he warned, the thousands of poor and small farmers would not be able to apply the urea at all, resulting worse impact on the yield of grain.
