A pregnant woman and her unborn child have tragically died after their car was hit with an unmarked police vehicle in Eltham.
Metropolitan Police in south-east London reported that the collision took place on the A20 near the Kidbrooke Park Road junction in Eltham.
The victim was 38 years old pregnant lady who suffered severe injuries in this accident.
After the car crash London Ambulance Service, Fire Brigade, and London’s Air Ambulance, responded to the scene. But the woman could not sustain injuries and took her last breath.
Detective Chief Superintendent Trevor Lawry expressed his condolences. My heart goes out to the woman’s family and friends who have lost their loved ones in this devastating incident”, Chief stated.
Police officials who were driving an unmarked vehicle were also injured but they have since been discharged.
Metro police have handed over further investigation of this incident to Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
The IOPC claimed that its team is investigating about this incident. “Our investigation is in the very early stages. We have sent investigators to the scene to collect evidence”, IOPC spokesperson said.
Department also offered condolences to the victim’s family members
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the vehicle involved in this crash was one of their own.
However, police have not confirmed yet that whether the car was on patrolling at that time or not.
Lawry advised motorists to avoid passing the area, as police will close the road for the investigation.
