Billionaire entrepreneur and CEO of Tesla Motors Elon Musk has once again stirred controversy about higher education values during a recent rally in support of Donald Trump.
At the rally in Philadelphia, Musk stated ” Colleges are overrated. Its fees add to your debts and are not very compulsory for learning.”
Despite holding degrees himself, Musk advocates the importance of skills. He preached that skilled traders such as electricians, plumbers, and carpenters play critical roles in society.
The entrepreneur highlighted that practical skills are more essential than traditional college degrees. He pointed out that traditional degrees do not guarantee success in today’s job market.
In a viral video posted on ‘X’, Elon Musk remarked, “Now knowledge is freely available; we need electricians, plumbers, and carpenters more than people with political science degrees.” He added, “I think hands-on professionals deserve greater respect and encouragement.”
This isn’t Musk’s first critique of traditional education. Back in 2019, Musk tweeted that a college degree was not necessary for employment at Tesla. His statement ignited a debate about the relevance of higher education in the modern workforce.
