Elon Musk, known as one of the richest people in the world, shared that his drug use has affected his business deals and relationships with investors. This revelation has raised questions about how personal choices can impact corporate leadership.
Elon Musk and Mental Health Struggles
In a candid interview, Elon Musk talked about struggling with feelings of sadness, or depression, at times. During these tough periods, he turned to drugs to help him feel better. “There was a time when I felt really down. During those times, drugs helped me feel better,” Musk said.
Musk denied using too much ketamine, stating, “if you use too much ketamine, you can’t really get work done. I have a lot of work, I’m typically putting in 16-hour days … so I don’t really have a situation where I can be not mentally acute for an extended period of time.” He attributed his depression to genetics and expressed confidence that his ketamine use would not affect his companies or their government contracts.
He explained that he used a small amount of ketamine each week. But he warned against using too much because it can make it hard to think clearly. “Taking too much ketamine can make it hard to do things properly, and I had a lot of important things to do,” Musk added.
Elon Musk also mentioned that he doesn’t drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes. Instead, he follows his doctor’s advice when taking prescribed medications. “I don’t drink or smoke, and the drugs I use are prescribed by doctors,” Musk clarified.
This disclosure comes after reports surfaced a few weeks ago about Musk using ketamine and other drugs to help with his feelings of sadness. Some people within Tesla and SpaceX have expressed concerns about Musk’s drug use and how it might affect the companies.
Ketamine, a potent anesthetic, has gathered increased attention as a potential treatment option for people exploring alternative therapies for depression, anxiety, and various other conditions. However, its use has also been associated with significant risks. The recent tragic death of “Friends” actor Matthew Perry has highlighted these dangers, as an autopsy report attributed his passing to the “acute effects of ketamine.” This incident serves as a clear reminder of the potential consequences associated with the use of this drug.
As discussions continue about Musk’s admission, people are keeping an eye on how it might impact the way Tesla and SpaceX are run and how the public sees them.
