Eight election tribunals have been established in Punjab as the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued a notification in this regard.
According to the notification, the election tribunals were set up in consultation with the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court. Justice Sultan Tanveer Ahmad would serve as the judge for the election tribunal at the Lahore principal seat.
The notification also stated that Justice (R) Rana Zahid Mahmood would be the judge for the election tribunal at the Lahore principal seat.
In addition, Justice Muhammad Iqbal Choudhry and Justice Anwar Hussain would also take on responsibilities for the election tribunal at the principal seat.
According to the notification, Justice (R) Mahmood Maqbool Bajwa would also serve as a judge for the election tribunal at Lahore’s principal seat.
Furthermore, Justice Sardar Sarfraz Dogar will be the judge for the election tribunal bench in Multan, while Justice (R) Zafar Iqbal will handle the responsibilities for the election tribunal bench in Bahawalpur.
According to the notification, Justice (R) Shakeel Paracha would be the judge for the election tribunal bench in Rawalpindi.
The election tribunals would address the petitions related to general and by-elections for the national and provincial assemblies.
Recently, the Supreme Court declared the Lahore High Court’s decision regarding the election tribunals in Punjab null and void.
