All schools and colleges in Islamabad will remain closed for the third straight day on Wednesday as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters continue their march towards D-Chowk, city officials confirmed on Tuesday.
The closure applies to both public and private institutions and was enforced due to heightened security concerns in the federal capital.
The protest march, which began on Sunday, saw hundreds of PTI supporters traveling from various cities to demand the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Key party figures, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi, are leading the main convoy nearing Islamabad’s D-Chowk.
This is not the first time educational institutions in Islamabad have been closed due to security concerns. Last month, schools were shut down during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meeting held in the city on October 15 and 16.
To maintain order during the ongoing demonstrations, the federal government has deployed additional security forces to assist the local administration.
