The Election Commission of Pakistan has finally published the scheme of polling stations for February 8 elections.
The ECP has set the two deadlines to issue the schemes but it failed to meet them.
The electoral watchdog officials admit they could not meet the target “due to load of work.”
It is mandatory for the ECP to publish the scheme on its official website at least a month before the polls, as per election laws.
The commission however announced it would issue the plan 15 days before the polls.
The scheme shows the ECP could not meet the requirement of assigning polling stations for the number of voters mentioned under the laws. The ECP should assign a polling station to at least 300 voters. And the numbers of voters should not exceed 1200 at a single station. The ECP, however, established 90,675 polling stations in four provinces for 128 million voters. There should be 10,700 polling stations for the voters, according to the election rules.
The ECP has categorized all polling stations into three categories of normal, sensitive and very sensitive.
Personnel and Pakistan Army and other forces would guard the polling stations of sensitive and very sensitive categories and also as quick responsive force.
