Although dust storms and thunderstorms are expected in the country’s higher regions from May 16 to 19, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that the present heatwave conditions might turn into a “severe heatwave” between May 23 and May 27.
According to the Met Office’s daily weather forecast, heatwave conditions are expected to develop across most of the nation starting on May 21. This is especially likely to happen over Punjab and Sindh because of high pressure in the upper atmosphere. It further stated that from May 23 to May 27, such circumstances may turn into a severe heatwave.
“In Sindh and Punjab, daytime temperatures are expected to be 04 to 06°C above normal from 21 to 23 and 06 to 08°C above normal from 23 to 27. From May 21 to May 27, daytime highs in Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan (GB), and Balochistan are predicted to stay 04 to 06°C above average.
The weatherman asked people to avoid undue exposure to direct sunshine and to use water wisely, but he also recommended farmers to take essential actions for managing the crops based on the projections.
Additionally, it issued a warning that harsh dry weather and heat waves might start forest fires or bushfires in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and northeastern Balochistan.
The PMD also stated that on May 16th, evening or night, a shallow westerly wave is probably going to impact the country’s top regions.
