Donkey Farms: Citing country’s good conditions for donkey breeding, a Chinese delegation wants to start donkey farms in Pakistan.
According a press release, in a Islamabad conference between National Food Security and Research Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain and Vice President of China’s Donkey Industry Zhao Fei, the minister appreciated the interest and underlined the close ties of the country with China.
Setting up donkey farms would be allowed under a formal contract once all legal criteria have been met; the agreement would expressly say that the local donkey population would not be influenced.
The minister also stated that Chinese industry could set up farms in the Gwadar Export Processing Zone, where slaughterhouses and export facilities would be constructed to export donkey meat to China via the Gwadar Port.
He added that the encouragement of the donkey business would open new job prospects and economic growth. This project, he said, would help to increase exports and fortify commercial relations with China.
The ‘Protocol on Quarantine Requirements’ for the export of donkey meat to China was approved in a highlevel meeting between the delegations from both sides in October last year.
The deputy secretary of the Commerce Ministry in charge of July last year told the committee that the protocol for donkey skins had been settled and the ministry was also considering including donkey meat on the list.
