Luigi Mangione is charged with the murder of a top health insurance executive. After these charges, over a thousand donations have sbmitted through an online fundraiser for Mangione release. Many of the messages express support for Mangione, as they are voicing in favor of the killer.
It is worth noting that Mangione is accused of shooting and killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on December 4, outside a Manhattan hotel. The incident sparked a five-day manhunt for the masked gunman. But as the Mangoine is arrested, he became a hero and a crush for many.
Although the murder has been widely condemned, the 26-year-old, Ivy League-educated, and photogenic Mangione has gained a huge following. Many are seeing him as a folk hero and a celebrity.
Social media users have even expressed admiration for Mangione’s smile and physique.
On the other hand people are voicing aginst UnitedHealthCare. People arguing that “denying healthcare coverage to people is murder,” and called the CEO’s killing a “justifiable homicide.”

Remember that Mangione is currently being held in Pennsylvania on gun and forgery charges, while New York prosecutors work to extradite him. His attorney has stated he plans to plead not guilty to the charges in Pennsylvania.
