President Donald Trump has issued a controversial executive order banning gender reassignment treatment for transgender children and young adults.
Trump’s move has faced strong criticism, and some legal experts have indicated that it could be challenged in court.
A few hours before this decision, President Donald Trump signed another executive order, which he said was aimed at ending the ‘transgender ideology’ in the US military.
Under this order, the position has been taken that transgender people are unable to serve in the military in a disciplined and professional manner.
Under the latest order on gender reassignment, the US federal government will not fund medical programs that provide support for hormone therapy, surgery, or other related medical procedures for transgender children and youth, or conduct research in this regard.
Before Trump was sworn in, the US House of Representatives passed a law that would have prevented transgender people from participating in girls’ sports in schools.
Republicans voted in favor of the law, while Democrats opposed it. According to the law, schools that include transgender players in girls’ sports will be deprived of federal funding.
Earlier, in his inaugural address on January 20, President Trump made it clear that “starting today, it will be the official policy of the US government that there are only two sexes, male and female.”
His statement faced severe criticism from various social and political organizations.
