The upcoming film “Punjab 95,” starring Diljit Dosanjh, is facing significant hurdles from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The censor board has demanded 120 changes to the films, including controversial changes to the main character’s name and the film’s title.
In addition, the CBFC has proposed changing the title “Punjab 95,” which refers to the year of Khalra’s disappearance.
The board has also demanded the removal of a scene based on the Sikh holy book, Gurbani, and any mentions of Punjab and the district of Tarn Taran. The censor board has also deemed references to Canada and the UK inappropriate.
The producers of the film have criticized these demands as unnecessary and unjust, claiming that the film is based on true events and testimonies. They believe that making changes to the film would compromise its authenticity.
“Punjab 95” is directed by Honey Trehan and produced by Ronnie Screwvala and MacGuffin Pictures. The film also stars Arjun Rampal and Surinder Vicky in key roles.
The filmmakers are now facing the challenging task of navigating the censor board’s demands while preserving the integrity of their project.
