Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director General Ahmed Ishaq Jahangir has been removed from his position, according to media reports.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also confirmed this issuing a notification regarding his removal has also been issued.
According to the notification, Ahmed Ishaq Jahangir has been made an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Establishment Division.
It is noteworthy that Ahmed Ishaq Jahangir had assumed the charge as FIA Director General in January last year.
According to media reports, his dismissal was a result of the failure of several FIA officials and other relevant authorities to prevent human trafficking cases.
It is worth noting that the issue of human trafficking is reaching alarming levels. Recently, two consecutive incidents of boat wrecks carrying illegal migrants have resulted in the deaths of dozens of Pakistanis. As these incidents unfolded, the federation took strict measures to address human trafficking.
