ISLAMABAD – Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said ruling alliance shortlisted five names for the slot of the caretaker prime minister, revealing that all members are politicians for the coveted slot.
In a statement, the PML-N leaders said his party and the PPP agreed to pick a politician for the key role, clarifying that he was not offered the slot of the caretaker premiership.
He said PPP and the PML-N finalised four to five names which will be discussed with other parties.
Asif said leadership of PDM alliance will announce a final decision shortly, and called for elections to be held in 90 days, opining that it suits his party.
He called it his personal opinion, and mentioned that assemblies will be dissolved two days before their tenure. Minister further clarified that he had neither proposed the name of FM Ishaq Dar for the slot of caretaker premier nor expressed a desire at any stage.
It has been learnt that PM Shehbaz Sharif would announce the final decision on picking the caretaker prime minister after final consultation with JUI-F.
