ISLAMABAD – Deadly monsoon rains led to huge waterlogging, and collapsed homes in parts of Pakistan, killing more than 170 people in over one month.
NDMA shared a report on the damages caused due to the floods and heavy downpours, with Punjab remaining at top with the highest number of deaths. 32 women and 72 children lost their lives in unfortunate incidents.
Punjab saw 67 deaths, followed by KP with 47, 10 from Balochistan, 21 in Sindh, 12 in Azad Kashmir, and 5 died in Gilgit-Baltistan. In the country’s capital Islamabad, 11 people died during the recent monsoon spell.
Meanwhile, hundreds suffered injuries across the country due to the recent heavy rains, according to the NDMA report. These included 110 men, 76 women and 74 children, it added.
The data of the injured included 158 people in Punjab, while the report says a total of 1,485 houses were damaged across the country.
Hundreds of cattles were also washed away in the recent rains and floods, as per the report.
Pakistan experiences its monsoon season during the summer months, typically from June to September. During this time, the country receives much of its annual rainfall, which is crucial for agriculture and water resources.
