Lahore Qalandars have named former England pacer Darren Gough as their head coach for the upcoming 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), according to an announcement made on Wednesday in Lahore.
At 54, Gough re-enters the Qalandars setup after guiding the team to the finals in last year’s Global Super League.
His appointment brings a wealth of international cricket knowledge to Pakistan’s flagship T20 tournament.
The former Yorkshire cricketer, known for his illustrious career from 1994 to 2006, was England’s leading wicket-taker in One Day Internationals.
Post-retirement, Gough shifted to coaching and administrative roles, including stints as England’s bowling consultant in 2020 and as Yorkshire’s Managing Director of Cricket.
“The PSL is a fantastic league, and the Qalandars have immense potential,” Gough said in a statement. “We’re determined to put on a strong performance with the support of our passionate fans.”
Sameen Rana, the team’s director, emphasized Gough’s familiarity with the franchise. “His success with the team during the Global Super League proved his ability to align with our vision and culture,” Rana remarked.
Gough’s early appointment offers ample time to strategize and build the squad for the 2025 PSL season, where Lahore Qalandars will vie for the championship against five other teams in Pakistan’s premier cricket league.
