Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Sirajul Haq has expressed concern over the verdict of the special court in the Cypher Case.
As the trial court announced 10-year prison for Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Tuesday, Haq termed the sentence to PTI leaders unfair, against the merit of the fair trial.
The trial should be held in an open court, he said in a reaction to the verdict.
The JI chief demanded the formation of an independent commission on the Cypher issue for a fair investigation. He said the nation has every right to be aware of all the facts surrounding the case.
Sirajul Haq said the US interference in Pakistan’s internal matters was an open secret. Washington has been meddling in the affairs of Pakistan for 75 years, he added. However, he added, it happened the first time that the matters had been debated within the institutions. He said the PTI leaders have the right to appeal. The JI, he said, would continue to struggle for the rule of law in Pakistan.
