Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has appointed Hina Parvez Butt as the new Chairperson of the Punjab Women Protection Authority (PWPA). Butt’s tenure is set for three years, marking a new chapter in the efforts to enhance women’s protection and empowerment in the region. The appointment is seen as a strategic step towards reinforcing the authority’s mission to safeguard women’s rights and address gender-based issues comprehensively.
In parallel developments, a high-level meeting took place between Maryam Nawaz Sharif and top executives from Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL). The meeting included Hatim Bamatraf, President and CEO of PTCL Group, and Naveed Khalid Butt, Group Chief Regulatory Officer. The agenda focused on the digital transformation of Punjab and enhancing digital communication frameworks.
Hatim Bamatraf commended Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s vision for a digitally advanced Punjab. He assured PTCL’s full cooperation in achieving this vision. During the discussion, Bamatraf highlighted PTCL’s ongoing projects aimed at providing high-speed internet and resolving connectivity issues that affect public initiatives. He emphasized the importance of a robust telecommunication infrastructure to bridge the digital divide between urban and rural areas.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz underscored the crucial role of high-speed internet in creating job opportunities through e-commerce and freelancing platforms. She pointed out that digital technologies should be accessible to all, regardless of their location. Nawaz stated, “Fast internet is essential for employment in the digital age, and our projects must reach every corner of Punjab, ensuring no area is left behind.”
Promoting a conducive environment for digital innovation and investment is a top priority for the Punjab government. Maryam Nawaz reiterated her commitment to these goals, indicating that the government is actively working to support technological advancements and foster a digitally inclusive society.
Additionally, Maryam Nawaz announced the launch of a free Wi-Fi service in Lahore, with plans to extend this service to other districts soon. This initiative is part of the broader strategy to improve internet accessibility and support the digital economy.
The meeting was also attended by Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, who participated in the discussions, highlighting the administrative support for these initiatives.
