Punjab’s Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz, on Wednesday in a presser refuted “social media rumors” about an alleged rape incident involving a student at a Lahore campus, labeling it a “made-up story.”
During a press briefing, the chief minister was present with the victim and Head of Department of International Relations Dr. Shahbnum gull.
CM stated that the event being discussed was entirely fictitious.
The previous week, reports of a student’s alleged rape spread widely across social media, leading to the police detaining a security guard from the institution.
Authorities confirmed the arrest and announced an ongoing investigation.
Referring to the incident, Nawaz said, “There is no truth to the allegations of rape. It’s all fabricated.”
She further claimed that a deliberate scheme was set in motion to deceive and provoke students via social media, accusing the PTI of exploiting the rumors for political gain.
She accused PTI for creating the ruckus calling it a cheap tactic to destroy Pakistan’s image as after soo many years all leaders are in Pakistan for SCO summit.
At a press briefing, the provincial head emphasized the need for a crackdown, stating it should proceed “irrespective of their affiliation, whether with the PTI or Chaudhry Pervez Elahi’s Q-League.”
She further accused the previous ruling party of fueling misinformation and creating chaos with the intent of undermining the state, particularly during the ongoing Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.
Referring to the PTI, she remarked, “I refer to them as a terrorist group for a reason. Who will be accountable for the harm caused to the girl and her family, whose name was misused to incite disorder?” as she criticized the party led by Imran Khan.
“The girl wasn’t assaulted but rather became a pawn in a political plot,” she added.
Maryam Nawaz said, “The girl has told me that she is not even a student of that college.”
CM also added that she promised the mother of the girl that she will expose the reality to the world.
