Following his breakout performance in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, the 48-year-old will now play Birmingham mobster Tommy Shelby in the Peaky Blinders film, which centers on his World War II duty.
Giving details about the highly anticipated movie to Deadline, Cillian said, “It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me.”
“I’m thrilled to be working with Steven Knight and Tom Harper again on the ‘Peaky Blinders’ movie. For the fans, this one is,” he continued.
The project, which is based on the British screenwriter Stephen Knight’s series, will be directed by Tom Harper and filming is scheduled to begin in the latter part of 2024, according to reliable reports.
Tom, the show’s director, also gave his thoughts on the BBC series: “When I directed ‘Peaky Blinders’ more than ten years ago, we could not have predicted the series’ eventual trajectory, but we were aware that there was something explosive in the combination of the writing and the cast.”
‘Peaky’ has always been a narrative about family, so it’s really thrilling to be working with Steve and Cillian again to release the film on Netflix to a global audience, he continued.
Endorsing the beginning of the film’s development, he said, “I’m really excited that this film is going to be made. The ‘Peaky Blinders’ tale will reach a dramatic new phase.
“No boundaries are set. “It’s like ‘Peaky Blinders’ at war,” he concluded.
