One of the biggest airports in the UK, Manchester Airport, warned travelers to avoid the area after multiple flights were interrupted on Sunday by a “major” power outage.
According to the BBC, the outage occurred early on Sunday morning and caused long lines to form inside the airport. The airport also stated that more disruption is anticipated throughout the day.
A few incoming planes were also rerouted to alternate locations.
A representative at the airport issued a warning, stating that travelers may experience delays.
As efforts to “work through that backlog” persisted, a spokeswoman stated that the flights of individuals who were already at the airport would be given priority.
The power outage “literally knocked everything off” at the UK’s third busiest airport, which is experiencing disruptions ahead of the summer holiday season. An airport insider stated this.
Major local logistics companies were among the other businesses impacted by this power outage.
Images of the crowds showed some waiting in almost complete darkness.
The airport said that, although it may take some time to get systems back up and running, its energy supply fell out at around 1:30 am BST. However, it has already been restored.
