Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, will meet with Shaheen Shah Afridi to discuss his concerns over statements ascribed to him that he did not utter, as a damage-control measure.
The board released a statement on Sunday confirming Babar Azam’s return as white-ball captain, which included remarks from Shaheen, further intensifying the controversy surrounding the captaincy of the Pakistan men’s team.
According to the reports, the pacer was upset over the situation and did not take well to this.
Reports said that Afridi had been requested by the PCB to remain silent on the issue, and that the former captain had written a thorough rebuttal in this respect but had been prevented at the last minute.
Shaheen, who was abruptly relieved of his captaincy following many days of uncertainty, would express his “concerns” to the PCB chief during the meeting.
According to the reports, Naqvi would also talk to Babar and Shaheen about the team’s future goals.
