The remaining Indian diplomats in Canada were placed “on notice” by Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly on Friday that the government will not stand for any more illegal conduct on its soil.
The threat comes after six Indian ambassadors were expelled earlier this week after Canada’s national police force claimed there was sufficient proof of extortion and murder by Canadian operatives acting under New Delhi’s directions.
After being named as a person of interest in the June 18, 2023, killing of Canadian Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia, the high commissioner of India was among those expelled from Canada.
Six Canadian ambassadors were told to leave India, which has vehemently refuted the accusations.
However, according to Joly, there is proof that New Delhi has targeted Sikh separatists who seek to establish a Sikh state in India and has also employed criminals in Canada for violent crimes.
Joly stated at a news conference in Montreal that there was unquestionably a threat, which is precisely why the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) made the extraordinary decision to inform the public that Indian agents and diplomats were connected to these illegal activities, causing Canadians to be intimidated, the targets of extortion, or even threatened with death. This information was reported by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
