The business community advised the Prime Minister (PM) of Pakistan Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to foster friendly relations with India and the opposition. It was suggested when the PM was addressing the business community in Karachi. The PM arrived in Pakistan’s financial hub -Karachi – today (Wednesday).
This is the first visit of the PM to the provincial capital of Sindh -Karachi- city since he assumed the executive office of the country. The PM also held a meeting with the provincial leadership and heard about their financial issues. However, when the Prime Minister was addressing the business community, a business tycoon Arif Habib suggested that the government should extend a hand of friendship toward India and the jailed leadership of PTI in Adiala. The Prime Minister smiled and said that now was the time for everyone to think about Pakistan by forgetting personal differences while doing their best at its part.
During his address to the businessmen, the Prime Minister referred to them as the backbone of Pakistan’s economy. He emphasized the importance of putting aside personal preferences to serve the country, stating “We should rise before our likes and dislikes to serve Pakistan.” The Prime Minister also expressed his desire to develop effective business policies that will improve the financial health of Pakistan.
The PM expressed his satisfaction with the growth of business in the city. He also shed light on privatization and the way forward amid the economic crisis. Later, Mr. Shehbaz Sharif chaired a meeting at the Chief Minister’s House where the financial matters between the federal and provincial governments were discussed.
It was revealed that the center owes Sindh a massive amount. The Prime Minister instructed the Federal Minister for Finance to discuss these financial issues with the Sindh Chief Minister and come to a resolution. Sharif later announced the addition of 150 buses in Karachi to a fleet of 300, which the provincial government aims to deploy to alleviate the people’s transport woes.
It is worth noting that Karachi, one of the largest cities in the world with a population of 20.3 million people, has a vast transportation network that includes 25,000 buses. These buses operate on over 700 routes, covering the entire city. However, the number of private buses has significantly decreased to 300, which operate on only 50 routes.
