The federal government has earmarked Rs. 4 billion for the promotion of e-bikes and an additional Rs. 2 billion for the nationwide distribution of energy-efficient fans, to address the pressing issue of carbon emissions in the transportation sector and promote energy conservation.
Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, serving as the federal minister of finance and revenue, made this announcement during the unveiling of the Budget 2024–25.
During his address, the Finance Minister emphasized Pakistan’s vulnerability to the adverse impacts of climate change and underscored the government’s commitment to implementing measures aimed at mitigating these effects.
Notably, he highlighted the establishment of the Pakistan Climate Change Authority, tasked with spearheading both adaptation and mitigation efforts.
Furthermore, Senator Aurangzeb revealed plans to finalize a comprehensive National Climate Finance Strategy by October 2024.
This strategy aims to facilitate the mobilization of international climate funds to support Pakistan’s initiatives for carbon emission reduction and climate resilience.
Additionally, he announced the establishment of a national digital climate finance monitoring dashboard to track data on climate finance obtained from international funding sources.
